Principal, Desert Willow Elementary

A Note From the Principal

I am a native New Mexican who cannot live without red or green chile! I began my teaching career, over 20 years ago, as a middle school teacher during the day, and an adult education instructor for English learners at night. When my husband and I moved to the lovely state of Arizona in 1999, I joined the PVUSD community. During this time I taught grades 4th-6th, earned my National Board Certification, and completed my Masters degree in Educational Leadership. After having my children, I found a way to balance my family life and passion for teaching by job-sharing with one of my mentors.  Being able to work part-time afforded me the opportunities to develop curriculum and most recently, teach a Highly Proficient class for grades 3rd-5th.

My husband and I have two amazing Desert Willow Roadrunners who inspire us everyday.  We keep our bags packed for any chance to take a trip. When we are not traveling, I can be found on the sidelines of a jiu jitsu tournament or soccer game cheering on my kids.  I also enjoy kayaking at Bartlett Lake or mountain biking and hiking on Apache Wash Trail.

My commitment to Desert Willow is driven by my deep respect for the educators and faculty who consistently go above and beyond because they care deeply about our children, each other, and the community. As Principal at Desert Willow, I will strive to support the tradition of excellence established at our amazing school and continue Learning for Life - Loving to Learn.

 Respectfully,   Brandie Baca-Dunlap
